This is a miswak, or siwak.

It’s a small, slender chewing stick (or twig) that has been used for oral hygiene for thousands of years.

But before we get any further, let me confess something:

You see, I have a bit of an obsession with clean, straight teeth. I mean, I’ll do ANYTHING to keep my pearly whites in tip-top shape. I brush after every meal, floss every hour and even carry a miswak in my pocket for emergencies.

By the way, please remember to brush your tongue every now and then 😳

Anyway, one of the things I’m most proud of is that I can confidently say that I have the whitest and cleanest teeth around. Who needs friends when you have perfect teeth, right?

Just kidding, please read on.

Your smile is the first thing people notice after your shoes. Your smile tells more about you as a person than you think.

  • What is a miswak and where does it come from?

The miswak is prepared from the Salvadora persica tree, a native shrub to the Baluchestan area in southeast Iran.
